JioHotstar Launches in India
JioHotstar, the new streaming platform merging Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar, has officially launched in India. Formed under the joint venture of Viacom18 and Star India, the platform promises to offer premium entertainment to over 1.4 billion Indians across 10 languages. According to CEO Kiran Mani, the goal is to make top-tier content accessible to everyone, combining movies, shows, live sports, and original content in one app.
Content and Partnerships
The platform will host content from both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, allowing existing subscribers to transition seamlessly. Beyond in-house content, JioHotstar will also feature shows and movies from NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros, Discovery, HBO, and Paramount, offering a wider variety than any other Indian streaming service.
Sports fans will benefit from exclusive streaming of IPL, WPL, ICC events, Premier League, Wimbledon, and domestic leagues like Pro Kabaddi and ISL. JioHotstar’s Sparks initiative will spotlight India’s top digital creators, making it a hub for both entertainment and creator-driven content.

- Open the Jio or Hotstar app.
- Log in with your mobile number.

- Complete payment via UPI, debit card, or digital wallet.
The offer appears to be limited to Jio SIM and JioFiber users, though some non-Jio users have reported activation. It lasts 30 days, after which standard fees apply.
