The Pak Army controversy intensified after a viral video showed Pakistan’s ISPR spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, winking at a journalist during a press briefing. The clip immediately circulated across social media, triggering criticism, debate, and sharp political reactions. Many users questioned the professionalism of the spokesman, especially because the wink came after a sensitive question related to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Pak Army Controversy: How the Wink Incident Unfolded
During the briefing, journalist Absa Koman asked pointed questions about allegations against Imran Khan, including claims that he is a “national security threat” and “anti-state.” She further pressed Chaudhry on whether Pakistan should expect future developments in the case. After giving his response, Chaudhry briefly winked in her direction, which viewers noticed instantly once the video reached social media platforms.
As the clip gained momentum, many users expressed frustration. Some called the moment disrespectful, while others claimed it symbolized the state of democracy in Pakistan. General Chaudhry’s Statements Add Fuel to the Debate

He also repeated longstanding allegations linking Khan to the May 9, 2023 attacks on military installations. Chaudhry asked rhetorically, “Was it not this same individual who orchestrated those attacks?” Khan has repeatedly denied involvement, claiming the accusations are politically motivated.
Furthermore, Chaudhry insisted the military would not allow “rifts between Pakistan’s military and its people,” adding that national security must remain a priority even within the framework of constitutional rights.
In response, Imran Khan posted a statement calling Army Chief Asim Munir a “mentally unstable person” and accusing him of causing a collapse of constitutional order in Pakistan. This exchange escalated political tensions, drawing even more attention to the Pak Army controversy.
