During this drive, authorities recovered ₹416.75 crore from individuals who took PM-Kisan benefits without meeting the required criteria. Because of this rigorous action, the government now aims to strengthen transparency and protect funds meant for genuine farmers.
Why the PM-Kisan Recovery Drive Became Necessary
The government launched the PM-Kisan recovery drive after discovering several cases of wrongful claims. Many ineligible individuals—including income tax payers, government employees, and financially strong families—were receiving benefits that were intended only for cultivators with modest incomes. Since this situation directly affected lakhs of genuine farmers, authorities immediately began corrective action.
To make the verification stronger, states started reviewing databases linked with Aadhaar, PFMS, PDS, and the Income Tax Department. As a result, officials quickly detected duplicate entries, incorrect land ownership records, and multiple claims from a single family. Because of these checks, thousands of ineligible entries were removed.
Strengthening the Scheme Through Technology and Better Data Checks
The government introduced several digital tools to improve the scheme. For example, Aadhaar-based authentication, e-KYC, and digital land record mapping now help identify eligible farmers more accurately. In addition, PFMS integration tracks payments in real time, which reduces errors and increases transparency.
Furthermore, states now match land ownership updates faster. When a landowner passes away, authorities verify new inheritance records to prevent claims under both old and new names. This additional step improves fairness and ensures the right person receives the benefit.
How the Recovery Drive Benefits Genuine Farmers
The PM-Kisan scheme has already disbursed ₹4.09 lakh crore to farmers since its launch in 2019. Because of the PM-Kisan recovery drive, funds that once went to ineligible people will now support farmers who truly depend on this assistance. As a result, more cultivators can use this support for seeds, irrigation, fertilizers, and seasonal expenses.
Moreover, by removing fraudulent entries, the government builds trust in the system. Since transparency has increased, farmers now feel more confident that the scheme genuinely prioritizes their welfare.
