US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is “pretty close” to finalizing a trade deal with India that could lower tariffs on Indian goods. He made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of Sergio Gor, the new US Ambassador to India.

Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a strong and capable leader. During the ceremony, Trump also spoke about Sergio Gor’s appointment as the new ambassador. He said Gor had already built a friendly relationship with Prime Minister Modi and was the right person to improve ties further.
“As ambassador, Sergio will strengthen our bonds, promote investment, increase American energy exports, and expand our security cooperation,” Trump said. Gor’s appointment marks a new phase in diplomatic and economic engagement between the two nations.
