Instagram Your Algorithm Feature Gives Users More Control
Instagram has introduced a major update that changes how users interact with recommended content. The new Instagram Your Algorithm feature uses artificial intelligence to help people customize what appears in their Reels feed. This update aims to give every user more power over what they want to watch and discover on the platform.
Instagram added a new icon on the Reels screen, displayed as two lines and a heart. When users tap it, they can open the Your Algorithm panel. This panel shows a list of topics Instagram believes match the user’s interests. Users can then adjust these topics to shape their feed. They can increase or decrease certain categories or remove interests that no longer match their taste.
Instagram says this level of control will make recommendations more accurate and more enjoyable.
How the Instagram Your Algorithm Feature Works
Instagram explains that users will see a summary of their main interests at the top of the feature. These interests help the system understand what Reels to recommend. Users can also type in new topics to refine their feed even further.
A unique part of this update is the ability to share your algorithm. Users can send their interest profile to friends, allowing others to explore their favorite topics. Instagram believes this will make content discovery more social and more engaging.
The feature is now available in the United States. Instagram plans a global rollout for English-speaking users in the coming weeks.
Why AI Matters in the Instagram Your Algorithm Feature
Social media platforms are shifting toward AI-driven personalization. Instagram’s update follows similar moves by other tech giants. X (formerly Twitter) uses Elon Musk’s Grok AI to rank posts. Musk claims that Grok analyzes over 100 million posts and videos each day to deliver better recommendations.
YouTube is also testing an AI-based system called “Your Custom Feed,” which helps users shape their Home page using personalized suggestions.
Instagram sees this trend as the future of content recommendation. The company believes that giving users more control while using AI for smarter rankings will improve the overall experience.
